The sense of community that comes out after such disasters is really heartwarming.
Heidi xoHeidi - Apples Under My Bedhttp://applesundermybed.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9104033475587282079.post-51684331049345783592012-11-05T15:30:16.003+11:002012-11-05T15:30:16.003+11:00I'm sure the communities will recover, but it ...I'm sure the communities will recover, but it is a hard mind shift from disaster to recovery. I think we all had some level of post traumatic stress disorder after the fires, it took me years to be able to drive on certain roads without flashbacks. I imagine it is the same for anyone who has been through that sort of thing.Lisa @ Blithe Momentshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06044161376528094256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9104033475587282079.post-40865927976852376532012-11-02T17:32:18.146+11:002012-11-02T17:32:18.146+11:00I hope NYC and the surrounding areas are able to s...I hope NYC and the surrounding areas are able to show some of the spirit that Canberra did after your fires - what a lovely tribute to the power of community and people. The news I have seen over the last few days suggests they will, and are, but it is certainly a tough process.Karihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15887621874869110597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9104033475587282079.post-32690425652027661052012-11-02T17:00:21.591+11:002012-11-02T17:00:21.591+11:00I'm exactly the same about the sky colour, or ...I'm exactly the same about the sky colour, or even the hint of smoke in the air gets me jittery. I don't think that will ever go away, that day is too etched in our minds.Lisa @ Blithe Momentshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06044161376528094256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9104033475587282079.post-51434691599643262402012-11-02T14:09:46.905+11:002012-11-02T14:09:46.905+11:00Yes. I remember my brother and I panicking and pulling down all the curtains as we watched to see whether the fire we could see all around would reach the pine forest opposite our house. And the woman who died was the mother of a boy in my year at my high school.

I will never forget the colour of the sky that day, and I still feel unsettled when I see the sky a similar colour, even now.Hannahhttp://wayfaringchocolate.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9104033475587282079.post-31311408785341696402012-11-02T09:45:37.471+11:002012-11-02T09:45:37.471+11:00They aren't fun that is for sure. It was terrible but on the other hand in some ways it made the city a better place with people closer and the community warmer. Still I don't recommend the experience.Lisa @ Blithe Momentshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06044161376528094256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9104033475587282079.post-14973339357490930702012-11-02T09:42:38.376+11:002012-11-02T09:42:38.376+11:00Good luck with the conference!
