Crumpets
Everywhere around me I see signs of impending spring. The daffodils are opening, blossom trees flowering, new leaves are appearing on my roses reminding me I really have to prune them. But I have to say, those plants must be able to feel something I can't because it still feels darn cold to me.
And as such, comfort foods are calling. We have been enjoying hearty soups, warming curries and rich casseroles each night, not to mention the odd delicious hot pudding. So when I saw that crumpets were on special, I didn't waste any time getting them home and into the toaster. A hot crumpet smothered in rapidly melting butter and honey has to be one of the most cozy snacks ever created.
Cold weather may not be my favourite thing, but it certainly is an excellent excuse for some truly delicious comfort food.
Is spring arriving near you? And what is your favourite comfort food?

Mmm... crumpets!
ReplyDeleteYou can see on my blog the signs of impending Spring I've been enjoying! :)
As for comfort foods, in the cold weather I crave hearty stews and lamb shanks with creamy mash, or beef stroganoff, or bangers and mash, or risotto! Yum!
I saw that post, love the daisy! Hmmm, we haven't done lamb shanks in awhile...
DeleteMmmm, I bought crumpets for the first time in years the other week, they were fantastic. (and no, spring is far, far away at the moment)
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten how great they are. I'm tempted to try the recipe I've seen for crumpet french toast now.
DeleteI adore crumpets :) I am not a big butter fan, but microwaved (not toasted!) with honey - oh yes.
ReplyDeleteOh microwaved, I've never done that. Hmmm, something new to try!
DeleteUh-oh!! That means it'll be getting cold here soon! Nooooooo!! I don't want to miss out on a proper summer again, for the third year since 2007!!
ReplyDeleteI personally like english muffins more than crumpets, except if the crumpets are grilled with peanut butter and honey :)
Ah ha! I feel less jealous of your gallivanting now!
DeleteConfession... I've never had a crumpet. I think I'll have to hunt one down now.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite an English thing, I'm not sure how easy they are to find in the US but they are worth seeking out! For a first timer, they are easier to grill than put in a toaster as the bottom cooks much faster than the top. Toast till they are golden brown, spread with butter and honey and enjoy the delicious finger licking goodness!
Deleteoh man, I'm so keen to make my own crumpets! They're the best. With butter and honey mmmmmm yes, perfection & comfort.
