Gift Wrapping

I come from a family that believes in gift wrapping.  As in we believe that a gift not only needs to be wrapped, it needs to look truly gorgeous, as though the wrapping is the embodiment of the gift within.

Christmas is hilarious.  My Mum, sister and I actually discuss our gift wrapping colours to ensure a coordinated (yet distinctly different to denote who wrapped it) array under the tree.  You wouldn't want clashing colours after all.  And we are keen on complicated decorations of ribbon with knots that need scissors to undo.  Then there was the Christmas that my sister decorated the presents with Lindor balls and our until then extremely well behaved dog ate them all and ripped the presents.

As a result I have a giant box of papers, ribbons and cards from which to choose and I have to say, I love the process of wrapping.  Choosing something beautiful to make a gorgeous gift to present is a real joy for me.  Last night I wrapped up a present for a friend's baby shower this weekend, and I have to say, I did myself proud.  I particularly love the little face looking out the top.

Maybe this is why I like giving presents so much - the wrapping!

Ninjabread Men

Everybody was kung fu fighting ... with gingerbread!

How awesome are these?  Using them would really result in kickass biscuits!  I shall be giving a set to a friend this weekend.  As a keen baker with a husband who teaches wushu and a 2 year old who will no doubt imitate him, they seemed appropriate.

The perfect gift

I've said it before but I really love buying gifts for people.  Thinking about what they might like, putting together something lovely.  But every now and then I find something brilliant and am completely so excited about giving it to them.

Today was one such day.  April is apparently the month of birthdays and I have a couple of weeks of present giving coming up.  I've found some good stuff, things I think people will really like, but today I hit the jackpot.  I can't say what it is as I think the recipient might read this blog on occasion, but it is just so cool!  Not only that but I saw it on a US website but managed to track it down in Canberra so that I can have it in time.

Now I'm super excited about giving it to her - hmmm do I make her open it on the spot?  And have you ever found a perfect gift that you have been totally excited about?

Surprises

Do you like a surprise? I know many people have a morbid fear of them, they like to live life in a planned orderly manner. I however, love a surprise and they come in all shapes and sizes just like the couple I have had in the last day.

Last night I arrived home to a surprise, a beautifully wrapped present on my doorstep! Attached to it was the most lovely card filled with the wonderful wishes of a very special friend. The devine Ms N, is one of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet and she had delivered me a gift to give me a little extra lift when she thought I could use it. Honestly, it just made my day.

This morning I went to a breakfast which I regularly attend, however due to a full carpark came in a different entrance. As I walked out into the courtyard I was surprised with a beautiful vista. A normally plain walkway has been transformed by vigorously flowering wisteria. It was so unexpected it quite literally stopped me in my tracks. After yesterday's rain it all just looked so fresh and gorgeous, I couldn't help but take a photo.
