You do win friends with salad

Winter has not left the building.  We are still experiencing some very cold mornings (-6 yesterday) and icy winds, however every day is just that bit longer, the sun is that bit warmer and spring flowers are appearing here there and everywhere.

It all has me wanting a change in my diet.  In winter I love a hot lunch.  I fight off the cold with hearty soups, steaming pasta and warming casseroles.  But now those lunches are starting to feel a bit heavy.  Like my winter coat I no longer need that hot food injection in the middle of the day.  It is time to return to my other love, salad!

I know Homer Simpson thinks you don't win friends with salad but he clearly never met me!  Even just a humble green salad has so many options.  I love the combination of tastes and textures and I just feel so good after eating one.  Today's salad has mixed leaves, cucumber, capsicum, avocado, carrot, tomato and mushrooms.  With every mouthful I feel just that bit closer to spring.

Do you think salad is good for making friends?  And what is your favourite salad?

  1. We've had a mixture of good days and bad days in Melbourne. Today is gloriously sunny! I'm not convinced it will stay that way though because the forecast predicted 90% chance of rain! I'll take what I can get though. Weather like this makes me so happy!

  2. aaaand now I will have that in my head all afternoon! :D

I agree though, salad is good for making friends, just maybe not as good as desserts.

  3. I must confess, I have never tried to win friends with salad, but then it's only in the past few years that I've realised salad can be more (so much more!) than mixed greens, carrot and tomato :P

    1. I think that is what I love so much about salad, the diversity. I can't wait for hot summer days when the tomatos and basil are growing and I can make panzella again.

  4. I love a big chunky salad!
Recently I tried mango with cucumber, chilli, lime and red onion. SO GOOD!
