A thrilling tale of ironing

I have a new iron and it thrills me.

I'm pretty sure that as a teenager it would never have occurred to me that I could utter that sentence.  I remember my mother getting a supremely flash Laura Star iron and being thrilled to bits.  I could appreciate that it was a good iron, but that it could summon up the emotion of thrill seemed a step too far.

My how times change.  I don't yet own a fabled Laura Star but my new steam iron from Aldi is thrilling me all the same.  It heats fast and hot.  It has proper steam that gets rid of a crease or puts one in with no effort at all.  The fancy LCD display lets me choose an array of settings, firing up the steam like nothing else.  I powered through shirts, jeans and pillowcases in no time flat.  I even read the instruction book.

It reminds me of the time my best friend and I decided that rather than meet in Portmans as we had for the last few years (after graduating from Sportsgirl) we would meet in the kitchenware section of David Jones.  We were shocked and appalled at ourselves and yet were brave enough to admit, if one of us was late, kitchenware now held more browsing allure.

So yes, to my teenage self it may all seem a little sad, but to a time poor 30-something with a love of crisply ironed everything, this really is a thrilling purchase.

  1. Oh, how exciting! I must be getting old, because there is not a hint of sarcasm there! :)

I barely do any ironing, my dad always does his ironing on a Sunday so if there was an odd item I needed done then I used to slip it in with that. Now my boyfriend does the Sunday iron run, I'm going to see how long I can get away with throwing the odd skirt in with his shirts!

    1. Hee hee, when ironing becomes cool!

I'm the ironer in our house. S can iron just fine but he takes forever and I get frustrated and take over. Plus he does not understand about the ironing of pillowcases, tea towels and other such things.

  3. I'm with you and I'm not even 30 yet :P Kitchenware over Portmans and a new steaming iron sound just lovely to me. I dropped our iron a few months ago (seriously sad) and whilst it's fine, it no longer steams properly. One day I'll justify upgrading it but until then, I'll admire yours!

    1. It was a very sad day when I dropped my last iron and it fell to pieces. Our interim iron was not as productive so I'm loving the new one.

  4. I really, really want a Dyson. I feel that same sense of annoyed excitement. Definitely can't afford it yet, though!

    1. I have a Dyson, it is that good. Seriously every now and then I bring it in to the office because the office vacuum does not compare. But it would not be helpful in your forthcoming adventures, so just bide your time.
